The Nourish Difference

You don't have to be a tree hugging, health nut to care about the quality of your food and the impact businesses make on our Earth. Which is why we thought you'd appreciate getting a behind the scenes peek at what makes Nourish different. Here are few of the extra measures we take to ensure our impact on the environment is minimal and the lengths we go to for high quality, clean food.  It certainly isn't the easy way to do what we do, but for us it's the only option.

Eco Friendly Practices
At Nourish we either use packaging made from recycled materials or packaging made from food sources that are compostable. We compost ALL of our food waste. That's 6 large bins picked up twice a week from the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture that we fill with your organic leftovers, coffee grounds, and juicing scraps. It all goes right back to our earth to nourish the soil. And of course we recycle...I mean welcome to the 90's. Our dish detergents do not contain chlorine and are as eco friendly as we could find.

Local Vendors
Our local vendors are wholesome, wonderful people and we are proud to support so many of these new friends. And really, their produce just tastes better. We proudly support and use Happy Hallow (organic produce), Storybrook Farm (organic produce),
Z Best Coffee (organic coffee beans roasted locally), Stanton Brothers (local free range eggs), Covered L Farm (grass fed local beef), Golden Creamery (raw milk cheese from grass fed cows), Goatsbeard (local goat cheese), Ozark Mountain Creamery (antibiotic free, artificial hormone free and VAT pasteurized milk). That's one of the things that makes Columbia so charming, is the support for local.

Beautiful flowers from Happy Hallow. See the kale in there?

Transparency
We are obsessed with food and ingredients that make our bodies healthier. We know that avocado oil and coconut oil have high heat points and are anti- inflammatory, unlike canola oil, which is why we choose to cook with them. Every single ingredient is carefully chosen and we are constantly thinking...."how can we make this dish healthier?". We also know that ingredients and nutrition facts are important to our customers so we break down every single ingredient and list it on our website and in booklets in the store. We certainly didn't do this for fun because it's time consuming and exhausting. Especially when you'd rather watch the Real Housewives of Orange County (....I mean meditate or read a book...) after the baby goes to bed than list every ingredient in our housemade bread and it's nutrition facts. But really,it's important for us that you can eat with confidence whether you're on the Whole 30, vegan, have allergies or just really love seeing there is absolutely NO preservatives in our food and how clean it truly is.

Organic Food
We feed ourselves and our families organic because ingesting chemicals really makes zero sense. For us, there was no other option than to serve organic food at Nourish. The only reason we can't say we are 100% organic is because we couldn't find little things like organic coconut aminos and a couple of small items, but nearly everything else is organic. We just needed to say 90% organic to protect our pesticide free booties.

Reverse Osmosis Water
Guess what taste better with RO Water? Everything. Lattes, coffee, almond milk, cashew milk and....water. Once again we want no surprises (chemicals) at Nourish and this includes your drinking water. Just pure, RO filtered water for you my friend.

Cooking from Scratch
This is certainly the biggest undertaking. At Nourish everything is made in house. Our amazing staff preps around the clock. We have a full time "nut milk maker" to make almond milk that we use in smoothies, baking, overnight oats and many of our recipes.  We go through 60-80 lbs of organic raw almonds per week. She squeezes 25 lbs of oranges a day for fresh squeezed oj for our smoothies and dressings. We have a full time baker to make our raw vegan desserts, house made bread, muffins and chocolate truffles with clean ingredients (no refined sugar and made creamy by avocados or pureed cashews). Those desserts are what my dreams are made of. Another aspect of Nourish we are incredibly proud of is our cold pressed juices. We cold press organic produce and bottle it on site. We use minimal fruits, just enough to make all those veggies taste delish. Find out why cold pressing is so much more beneficial than other methods ( https://store.goodnature.com/blog/cold-pressed-vs-centrifugal-juice-nutritional-data/ ). We make grass fed bone broth, veggies broth...I could go on and on, but I'd have to list our entire menu. Once again this isn't the easiest way, but we think it's the only way. Food just tastes better when it's fresh, made without preservatives and our bodies process it the way it's meant to. We hope that you feel even better eating at Nourish than you did before.d have to list our entire menu. Once again this isn't the easiest way, but we think it's the only way.
